The Dumb Friends League is conducting medical and behavioral evaluations on more than 40 dogs it took in after their removal from a private residence in Bent County. The dogs were removed from the property by the Bent County Sheriff and Colorado Humane Society & SPCA investigators who were responding to animal cruelty complaints. The dogs are mostly small breeds – chihuahua, dachshund, terrier, papillion and pekinese mixes.
The dogs had been living in unsanitary conditions with inadequate shelter. The owner did surrender the dogs to Colorado Humane, and the Bent County sheriff’s department is considering whether to file animal neglect charges.
“The owner was very cooperative and made the best decision for these dogs by allowing us to remove them from a potentially life-threatening situation.” Said Duane Adams, Associate Director for the Colorado Humane Society & SPCA.
The Dumb Friends league is a sheltering partner of the Colorado Humane Society. Some of the dogs may be made available for adoption later this week. Interested adopters can view all adoptable pets online or call 303-751-5772 to find out when they will be available.
If you are not looking to adopt right now but still want to help these dogs and other homeless pets in our care, please consider making a donation today.
